or individual tuition
I live in Apollo Bay which is a remote coastal village on the Great Ocean Road, Australia. I have been a watercolour painter for most of my life but also dabble in oil and acrylic painting and textiles.
My art celebrates the wild skies, beauty and moodiness of Australia’s coast, landscapes and birds in translucent and vivid colour. I also love printmaking, using intaglio and a la poupee methods to create impressionistic collographs.
My work has been exhibited in Victoria at the Meat Market Art Gallery, Gryphon Gallery and in exhibitions for the Diamond Valley Arts Society, Apollo Bay Arts Inc exhibitions and Birregurra Art Show amongst others. I also accept private commissions for paintings.

“Cathy is an accomplished and experienced watercolour artist, and I’ve learnt so much about the medium, the tools, and the methods in a really friendly and supportive environment. I had a lot of fun, and have come away with a new appreciation and understanding of how to move forward with my own painting with this fabulous and versatile medium. I highly recommend Cathy’s workshops!”
“My partner and I, total novices at painting, attended a watercolour workshop held by Cathy Donovan. Cathy is a patient and inspirational teacher. She is generous with her time and knowledge. Apart from introducing us to the techniques of water colour painting, the knowledge she imparted also made subsequent gallery visits so much more fullfilling. I’d definitely recommend Cathy to novice and not so novice artists.”
“As a novice art student I attended a series of classes run by Cathy as an introduction to using watercolours. Cathy’s warm and supportive manner made the classes very enjoyable and relaxed for everyone. She provided expert tuition on painting techniques, advice on materials and also offered follow-up assistance if required. I recommend Cathy’s art lessons to anyone wanting instruction or support with their art practice.”
